The Marshall University Early Education STEAM Center continues to collaborate with Logan County schools to create an early childhood educational research laboratory for teacher training and professional development as a pilot for other counties in West Virginia. This model focuses on implementing best practices in early childhood education with a Reggio Emilia influence. In the fall of 2017, the Benedum Foundation granted funds to support this effort, which began with a pilot preschool classroom. In the summer of 2018, we worked to create an inviting, natural learning environment for the children. During the 2019-2020 school year, our staff will support teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood.
